I enjoy learning the ancient methods for crafting jewellery. The beautiful intricate swirls of Russian filigree grabbed my attention and challenged my ability. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful of art forms. This exquisite, lacy metal technique can be traced back 5000 years. I enrolled in advanced silversmith courses at Wm. Holland Lapidary School, Georgia, and I have gone on to create many custom filigree pieces.
I use wire wrapping skills to create a frame from 18 gauge argentium and fill it with fine, threadlike wires which are twisted and soldered into delicate designs. The designs are a reflection of my keen interest in art nouveau. I love to recreate the curves found in nature such as birds, butterflies and flowers. Simple line drawings can be transformed into one of a kind wearable art.
Let’s design it and I’ll create it.
